FAQ & Application Tips
The questions we answer most often at the counter — surface preparation, primers, curing, coverage and waterproofing sequence. Still unsure? Send us a photo on WhatsApp.
How do I prepare a wall before painting?
Scrape off loose paint and chalky distemper, wash away dust and grease, fill cracks with a shrink-free crack filler, then sand smooth. Apply two coats of putty where the plaster is uneven, sand again, and finish with a primer coat before the emulsion.
Do I really need a primer?
Yes. Primer seals the porous plaster so the topcoat does not sink in, improves adhesion and gives an even sheen. Use cement primer on fresh plaster, wood primer on timber and red oxide or metal primer on iron.
How long should new plaster cure before painting?
Allow 21 to 28 days of curing. Painting damp plaster traps moisture and causes peeling and alkali burn. If you must paint earlier, use an alkali-resistant primer and check moisture at the counter first.
How many coats of paint do I need?
Two full coats over primer for interiors, two coats for exteriors, and a third when going from a dark shade to a light one. Keep 4 to 6 hours between coats at around 30°C, longer in humid or monsoon weather.
When is the best time to waterproof a roof?
In dry weather, before the monsoon. The slab must be clean and dry, cracks cut and filled, and corners treated with fillets. A two-coat liquid membrane with fibre mesh at junctions gives the longest life.
How do I stop a terrace leak that is already active?
Trace the leak, chase out the crack in a V shape, plug it with a rapid leak-plug compound or PU injection, allow it to set, then apply the waterproof coating system over the whole area — patching one spot alone rarely holds.
Should waterproofing go under the tiles in a bathroom?
Yes. Bathrooms and balconies should be waterproofed on the screed before tiling, taking the coating 300 mm up the walls and around all pipe penetrations, then tiled with tile adhesive and a waterproof grout.
What is an integral waterproofing additive and when do I use it?
It is mixed into the concrete or plaster at batching to reduce water absorption throughout the mix. Use it for slabs, plaster, sunken portions and water tanks — it complements, but does not replace, a surface membrane.
How is coverage calculated?
Coverage on the pack is per litre per coat on a smooth, primed surface. Rough plaster, porous or previously unpainted walls can reduce it by 20 to 30 per cent. Bring your wall measurements and we will work out the quantity.
Can I paint over damp or fungus-affected walls?
Not directly. Fix the source of the damp, scrub off fungus with a fungicidal wash, let the wall dry, apply a damp-proof or anti-fungal coating, then paint. Otherwise the growth returns through the new paint.
How long before the surface can be used after coating?
Touch dry is usually 2 to 4 hours; full cure for waterproof coatings is 5 to 7 days. Do not pond-test a terrace or fill a tank before the recommended cure time.
Can you tint any shade in store?
Yes — our colour hub machine dispenses exact colourant doses and the mixing machine blends it uniformly, so repeat cans match. Bring a sample or pick from the shade deck at Near Beonta 2 Gram Panchayat Office, Kanthal Beria More (BatTala).
